The Ranch at Dove Tree
Offering Innovative Addiction Treatment for Young Adults
The presence of students with alcohol and drug problems on college campuses is a well-documented problem. Current estimates suggest that as many as twenty-five percent of all college students in the United States meet the diagnostic criteria for a substance abuse or dependency problem.
While many of these students develop unhealthy substance use behaviors while on campus, the number of freshman arriving on college campuses with established alcohol and drug issues is also increasing. There are few treatment facilities in the nation that currently offer specialized treatment programming for the emerging adult demographic, yet, the National Survey of Substance Abuse Treatment Services reports that the 18-20 and the 21-25 year old age groups continue to make up the largest percentage of individuals receiving treatment in the United States. While traditional adult treatment services can benefit emerging adults with addictive disorders, programs designed to meet the unique needs of this population can greatly improve their chances at achieving long-term sobriety.
The Collegiate Recovery Program at the Ranch at Dove Tree offers emerging adults innovative and effective addiction treatment services that are tailored specifically to their developmental needs. Capitalizing on the collective wisdom of professionals associated with both The Ranch at Dove Tree and the Center for the Study of Addiction and Recovery at Texas Tech University, this unique treatment approach uses an integrated curriculum that blends addiction rehabilitation treatment methods with life skills, psycho-educational groups and individual and family therapies created specifically for the emerging adult population. The Collegiate Recovery Program provides clients with the necessary tools to move forward in their lives, and continues the mission of The Ranch at Dove Tree by preparing young adults and their families for a lifetime of recovery.
The Collegiate Recovery Program is a residential treatment program for men and women between 17 and 25. It is designed for successful completion within a six-week time period. The program recognizes that long-term treatment is the preferred option for emerging adults with addictive disorders and prescribes to the idea that a comprehensive discharge plan will include significant recommendations for aftercare services. For this reason, The Ranch at Dove Tree also offers an extended transitional living facility called the Tree House for men and Tree Haven for women.
After completing the residential Collegiate Recovery Program, a discharge planning team at Dove Tree can work with emerging adult clients to enroll them in sober living at one of their partners across the country. Dove Tree clients continue to be supported through structured aftercare activities until they become eligible for enrollment in the nationally-recognized program at Texas Tech University’s Center for the Study of Addiction and Recovery or at another Collegiate Recovery Community that meets the needs of the client.
The CSAAR consists of over seventy-five students on the campus of Texas Tech University who are in recovery and who are pursuing their educational goals successfully. With an average GPA of 3.34 and a documented relapse rate of less than seven percent, the students in this program are truly living the picture of lifelong recovery. With scholarships for recovering students, over twenty on-campus twelve-step and other recovery support group meetings, and an on-campus sober living option, this program offers emerging adults in recovery a chance to pursue their educational goals in an environment that is supportive of recovery.
The Ranch at Dove Tree understands the devastating effects of addiction on young people and their families. They also understand the resiliency of emerging adults and believe in their ability to get their lives back on track. In fact, they are committed completely to helping their clients achieve lifelong recovery while reestablishing their hopes and dreams that got lost to the disease of addiction.
Their commitment to creating an individualized treatment plan for each client necessitates a diverse staffing plan that incorporates medical professionals, therapists, counselors, academics, recreational specialists, and food service industry professionals.
