A.R.H.E. CONFERENCE HUGE SUCESSS
The 6th annual Association of Recovery in Higher Education (ARHE) Conference in Reno, Nevada this past May 27-29th was the largest and most successful to date with over 325 students, CRC staff, faculty, educators, parents, therapists and counselors in attendance. The University of Nevada’s Collegiate Recovery team (NRAP) of Meri Shadley, Daniel Fred and Jordan Fugate put together an incredible cast of presenters including David Mineta, Deputy Director of Demand Reduction, White House Office of Drug Control Policy, the witty Director for the Study of Addictions and Recovery Alexandre Laudet, the highly respected Kevin McCauley Co-founder of the Institute of Addiction Study, THE face and voice of recovery, Tom Coderre, Presidential Advisor to SAMHSA, and Steve Grant father and founder of Chris and Kelly’s HOPE Foundation.
Says NRAP Program Director and Associate Professor for the Center for the Application of Substance Abuse Technologies (CASAT), Meri Shadley: “This was such an exciting event to host– the positive energy and supportive atmosphere of recovery was rampant throughout the conference. We couldn’t have asked for a better group of presenters. Watching everyone share experiences, brainstorm new ideas, and learn from each other was heartwarming. We hope that some new traditions like having students share their talents of poetry and song emerged for the future. The conference truly lived up to its byline – Embracing the future, Together.”
The 7th annual conference has been scheduled for Atlanta next May.
