Getting Higher

Poor Bill…. I can only imagine the thoughts that went through his mind, being no more a fan of religion than I was. Like many of us, Bill was full of pride, ego and arrogance. There was no room in there for God or anything else. However, where my mind was closed, Bill’s remained open for a long chat with Ebb. He was confronted with the truth of Ebby’s story and the evidence of Ebby’s health, and Bill simply remained willing, ripe for a new idea. And then Ebb said to Bill what I believe are the most important words ever said in our history as recovering people. Bill, he said, “Why don’t you choose your own conception of God.”

And this, my friends, is where the story both gets interesting and is thrust in a completely different direction. Next issue we will take a look at this critical juncture in recovery history and how it has worn very well in the ensuing years.

And we’ll take a look at how to develop a God, a Higher Power of YOUR own understanding. Tune in, friends, you’ll want to find out how this whole thing ends……
