Elm Tree Recovery

Elm Tree Recovery (elmtreerecovery.com) announces its opening spring 2017 in Tempe, AZ.  Elm Tree primarily treats young adults who have a substance use disorder and desire to build a foundation for recovery, learn life skills, and get refocused on their academic goals.

Elm Tree uniquely combines comprehensive, short-term, intensive, clinical treatment with an academic coaching aftercare program for both men and women. This program provides residential housing on the same property to provide their staff the opportunity to assist clients with life skills. The program emphasis is to assist clients with the ‘next phase’ of their academic career, while continuing to develop a social network that supports their sobriety. This could look like obtaining a GED, going to vocational school, or pursuing a bachelors or graduate degree. Conveniently, Elm Tree is only ½  mile from the Arizona State University campus.

Headed by Clinical Director Dr. Stacey Smith, PhD, the team at Elm Tree has a myriad of clinical and real-life experience. Process and psychoeducational groups will be facilitated by masters-level, licensed, mental health/substance abuse clinicians. The clinical staff has extensive training and experience in treating individuals with alcohol/drug addiction as well as co-occurring disorders like trauma, anxiety, and depression. Additional groups and programming focused on life skills, job readiness, and practical application of recovery principles will be facilitated by the full team, from behavioral health techs to clinical directors. Many of the staff have their own experience in recovery, which can provide the clients with a level of understanding, support, and hope.

Elm Tree’s holistic approach incorporates clinical programming, life skills training, and academic coaching, while addressing the physical health needs of a person in recovery. Some examples of the programming that client’s will experience include: shame resilience, identifying and processing trauma, development of healthy relationships, emotional regulation/distress tolerance, healthy boundaries, and relapse prevention. Family healing is also a focus of Elm Tree programming. Clients and their families will be prepared for an intensive 3-day family workshop that will engage the entire family in the process of recovery.

The residences for the clients at Elm Tree recovery are one or two-bedroom apartment style living with kitchens and living room areas. This type of living accommodation mirrors the experience that young adults will have on their own, while providing staff supervision to assist them in making this significant transition. A strong partnership with Treehouse Learning Community (treehouselearningcommunity.com) will provide clients with the opportunity to achieve their educational goals while maintaining a sober way of life.
